The black finish is achieved through a PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition) coating process, which creates a durable bonded coating over the stainless steel. Our black PVD pieces are typically coated at approximately 8–10 microns, which is significantly thicker and more durable than traditional plating methods.
We understand that the smooth black finish may feel different from raw stainless steel and can sometimes give the impression of a non-metal material. Unlike unfinished steel, the PVD coating creates a sleek, uniform surface that can feel softer or smoother to the touch. However, we can confirm that the base material underneath is genuine 316L surgical-grade stainless steel.
